Need help with id
This photo was taken in Marfa Tx 2010 and i have tried 2 different forums to get a positive id with no results. It is a juvenile bird the parents were coming in to feed it.

Not too surprised you've had difficulties getting a consensus. As Michael points out, it's a very young nightjar, so it's a plumage rarely observed. I think structurally, it would point to Common Nighthawk (well proportioned head) compared to say Common Poorwill or Chuck-will's-widow which could possibly be other candidates. Also, appears to show the diagnostic whitish (buff on this juvenile) feather on the folded wing (what feather is it?) that you see on most perched nighthawks and Sibley illustrates.
