BLUE GROSBEAK, JACKSON COUNTY, MICHIGAN, 30 JULY 2020

www.flickr.com/photos/snow-shadow/albums/72157710843100772
STILL QUITE RARE IN SOUTHERN MICHIGAN, THE BLUE GROSBEAK IS IN THE MIDST OF AN ONGOING NORTHWARD RANGE EXPANSION. THIS PHOTOGRAPHED MALE IS ONE OF TWO TERRITORIAL BIRDS, EACH WITH A FEMALE. A THIRD TERRITORIAL MALE IS LIKELY. BUT IT MUST BE STUDIED FOR ANY PLUMAGE RECOGNITION. ITS PERCHING BEHAVIOR SEEMS TO BE DIFFERENT THAN THAT OF THE OTHER TWO MALES. IT IS A PAIRED BIRD AS WELL.
