British butterfly year listing with Nick Sampford continued
On the 22nd June I visited Oaken Wood in surrey for Wood White but whilst this site did not yield the target species, a quick dash to Botany Bay was more successful. The rest of the day was spent at Hordle Cliffs looking for mainland Glanville Fritillaries without luck, although I did manage to find Painted Lady butterfly.

This was a busy period for me and the next day, on the Isle of Wight, we found lots of Glanville Fritillaries including some photographable ones.

On the return journey we stopped at Martin Down again, seeing Marbled White and as many as a dozen Dark Green Fritillaries, although all evaded the camera. A Brown Argus was also added to the year list.
The following day found me in Buckinghamshire and trying for Black Hairstreak. We soon found the species feeding on a sloe flower, as many as six individuals, as well as Small Skipper.

On the 24th I was in Norfolk again and this time the weather was with me - after trying a well-known site for Swallowtail butterfly without luck we travelled on to Strumpshaw Fen where with the assistance of the warden we managed eighteen separate sightings of Swallowtails.
It's now the end of June and I have reached 36 species. Roll on July !
