The new Birdwatchers Handbook to the Birds of Britain and Ireland is scheduled for publication on May 26th 2001. Written by well known birder and naturalist Jonathan Elphick, supported by some of the country's leading bird artists, this book is likely to establish itself as the pocket (field) guide for many British birders who prefer their field guide to be just that.
Originally published in 1997 as Birds: A Guide to British Birds, the handbook has now been revised and updated. Depicting over 300 species and crammed with key facts, this is the perfect guide with which to advance your birding knowledge or introduce your friends to the world of birding. It is without doubt a near perfect guide for beginners. Although some of the artwork is variable, with certain images looking somewhat tired and familiar, Ren Hathway's are beautifully crafted. Ren's warblers are as good as his 'Thrushes'. If you're precious about your 'Beaman and Madge' or your 'Collins' or you're not too proud to admit your limitations then this might be the perfect pocket or glove compartment companion. We've even loaded a couple of pages for you to decide for yourself . Just click on the images to the right. |
