22. Ferruginous Duck: about 130 at Lentini Lake on 6/1 and over 50 at the Simeto River on 11/1. South-eastern Sicily, and Lentini Lake in particular, is perhaps the most important wintering area in Europe for this species

23. Tufted Duck
24. Red-breasted Merganser
25. Marsh Harrier
26. Common Buzzard
27. Bonelli's Eagle: 1 juvenile at Lentini Lake on 11/1, this bird had been present off and on since early December. A few pairs of this species are still breeding in Sicily and this is almost certainly one of the offspring
28. Lesser Spotted Eagle: 1 juvenile at Vendicari on 7/1 had been present since December, and is likely the same individual that spent about a month at Siracusa saltpans in Nov/Dec. This is the first confirmed winter record for Italy and one of very few for Europe.

29. Eurasian Kestrel
30. Peregrine
31. Rock Partridge: 6 at Cava Grande on 10/1. The race whitakeri is endemic to Sicily and is another potential candidate for a split.

64. Slender-billed Gull
65. Common Gull
66. Lesser Black-backed Gull
67. Baltic Gull
68. Yellow-legged Gull
69. Caspian Gull: As many as 100+ were at Lentini Lake on 6/1, and about 20 were at the nearby landfill on 11/1. At the landfill on 11/1 as many as 10-15% of adult "yellow-legged" gulls were Caspian Gulls, but only a very small percentage of first-year birds were Caspian Gulls. The status of this species is still very little known in Italy, but it has been apparent from recent observations that it is locally fairly common in south-east Sicily in winter.
70. Great Black-headed Gull: 3-4 adults at Lentini Lake on 6/1, and 1 there on 12/1. The species has been wintering regularly here in small numbers (as many as 8 have been present) for the past several years.
71. Kittiwake
72. Sandwich Tern
73. Whiskered Tern
74. Rock Dove/Feral Pigeon
75. Woodpigeon
76. Collared Dove
77. Scops Owl
78. Little Owl
79. Common Swift
80. Common Kingfisher
81. Hoopoe
82. Calandra Lark
83. Short-toed Lark: 1 at Longarini/Cuba on 10/1 was the first winter record for Sicily, and one of very few for Italy
84. Crested Lark
85. Woodlark
86. Sky Lark
87. Meadow Pipit
88. Red-throated Pipit: 31 at Longarini/Cuba on 10/1 were the largest flock ever recorded in Italy in winter. 1 flew over Lentini Lake on 6/1
89. Water Pipit
90. Richard's Pipit: 1 at Lentini Lake 6/1, 11 at Siracusa north coast on 9/1, 2 at Capo d'Ognina on the same date, 2 at Longarini/Cuba on 10/1. This species is now known to winter regularly in south-eastern Sicily, with as many as 40-50 birds present last year. This year numbers seem to be lower, but once vocalizations and habitat preferences are learned it is relatively easy to find.
91. Yellow Wagtail
92. Grey Wagtail
93. White Wagtail
94. Wren
95. Dunnock
96. Robin
97. Bluethroat: 1 at Lentini Lake on 6/1, 3 at Longarini/Cuba on 10/1

116. Short-toed Treecreeper
117. Penduline Tit
