Migration Watch -2002 - a great new internet site from the BTOMigration Watch is a new BTO project which started on 1st March 2002 and is all about tracking the arrival of spring migrants into the UK. Migration Watch should appeal to many birders, of all abilities, across Britain.
But Migration Watch will not only monitor the arrival of summer migrants, it will also track the flow of birds through the country. So the BTO, as organisers, are not just interested in first arrival dates, they want to work out when a good proportion of birdwatchers are recording a particular species and also look at how weather patterns influence the pattern of arrival. This is the first time the BTO has organised a large-scale survey to look at migration and Migration Watch is planned to run over the next three years; we encourage all surfbirders to join in. Because migration is a constantly moving phenomena, Migration Watch will be run as an internet project so that the results can be kept really up-to-date and new results will be available on the website every day. To find out more, have a look at the Migration Watch web pages http://www.bto.org/migwatch/index.htm. These pages will be updated regularly and the whole project will be ready to go live on 1st March 2002. You can register your interest in Migration Watch by sending an e-mail to migrationwatch@bto.org
