The Scopac |
According to its Norfolk-based designers, the Scopac fits all standard tripods. It is waterproof, hard-wearing and UV protected. It is certainly as light as a feather and comes with an internal zipped pocket sufficient to hold a note book, field guide or map.
Of course, today, many a birder spends more of the day in the car than in the field. Yet we all know that the more hours you put in the more birds you find. The Scopac opens up new birding opportunities because it lets you stay in the field longer and travel on foot further.

If you're fed up of your tripod intermittantly catching you between the legs just as you break out into a stride, opening itself up just as you climb over that stile or seeing the scope spin off as it catches itself on a bush, not to mention the shoulder pain when you finally return to base.....then here at last is a simple but effective answer.
Indeed, for the six-foot birder like myself, the Scopac is a must. You'll have already discovered that there's only a handful of tripods designed to extend to your needs. Inevitably, they are more robust, but heavier and less compact. The challenge of covering large distances with one of these tripods has until now been one I've avoided. Not so with a Scopac. You'd be forgiven for forgetting you'd even brought it with you.
Does the Scopac have any drawbacks - well only one that I have found so far. If you intend to be in the field all day then you have to make a choice, the scopac or the backpac - previously the latter had my flask of coffee, a bite to eat and rainwear etc. Now that's a lot to give up. I guess I'll just have to invest in a bunbag. (Latest news - reviews really do work - the scopac plus now features an extra pocket !)
