The Bohemian Waxwing Bombycilla gurrulus is one of three species of waxwings. Along with the new world Cedar Waxwing and the Japanese Waxwing they form the Bombycillidae. All are highly gregarious, migratory and prone to irruptions.
Birding World reported that as many as 2,000 birds invaded Britain this winter with the main concentrations being in southern Scotland and northern England.
Highest counts included flocks of 240 in South Shields, Tyneside, and Leeds, Yorkshire, UK.
