7th Dec – Isla de la Plata: 2 on the crossing to the island and 25+ on the return crossing.

6th Dec – Chone Marshes: 6 were on the main lake though there were hundreds of wildfowl present in the distant heat haze and some at least could have been this species.

17. Andean Teal
23rd Nov – Antisana: A pair were in the small stream by the first bridge whilst on the main lake there was at least a further 5.

23rd Nov – Antisana: an immature was watch for 5 minutes.

37. Black Vulture
Common and widespread – Seen most commonly in the lowlands of both the east and the west with high counts 30+ over the Rio Napo on 23rd and 28th Nov.

38. Turkey Vulture
Common and widespread – The most abundant vulture, commonly seen in both the east and western lowlands and at higher altitudes. Highest counts: 45+ Rio Napo 25th Nov.

39. Greater Yellow-headed Vulture
Generally scarce and only encountered in the lowlands of the east.
24th Nov – Rio Napo: 2 seen on the way to La Selva.
25th Nov – La Selva: a single at Garzacocha Lake

8th Dec – Ecuasal Lagoons: 20 were seen on the adjacent beach

80. Black-necked Stilt
6th Dec – Chone Marshes: 300+ were spread across several areas with the largest flocks occurring at the roadside canal (150+), the main lake (150+) and a nearby lagoon (150+)
8th Dec – En route to Ecuasal Lagoons: a fine flock of at least 200 birds were in association with a large mixed flock of waders.
8th Dec – Ecuasal Lagoons: at least 250+ were scattered across the coastal salt lagoons

23rd Nov – Antisana: 5 were found including a pair with a chick close to the road

8th Dec – Salinas: at least 30 were spread out along the coastal strip

Numerous frog species were encountered along the trails in the Amazon but a possibly Orange-groin Rainfrog was semi-resident in our bathroom at La Selva.

Two species of Gecko were found in our bathroom at the La Selva Lodge

Various species were found with Blue-tailed Whiptails in the Amazon to presumed Anole species at Rio Palenque. The numbers were greater in the dryer lowlands with many being found in the arid areas near some of the salt pans.

5th Dec – Rio Palenque: 3 or more large Iguanas at this reserve were probably this species.

24th to 27th Nov – La Selva: This huge a beautiful butterfly was occasionally encountered along
the various forest trails

The widest variety of butterflies came from the Amazon with all sort of colours and shapes
though the Tandayapa Valley and the Pacific Lowlands had their fair share of additional
species

Often encountered in the Amazon though a fine swarming colony was encountered in the Terra
Firme Forest with several large spiders seen fleeing the scene.

&Mac183; Conga Ants
Found in the Amazon up and close encounters with this inch long ant were most likely at the Canopy Platform

&Mac183; Leaf Cutter Ant
Regularly encountered in the Amazon

&Mac183; Tarantula
6th Dec – MantaRaya Lodge: a not very large one was on the steps outside DK and BB room. I say not large as Tarantulas go but still big enough that you wouldn’t want it within a hundred metres of you.

7th Dec – Isla de Plata: a single was seen taking a protracted flight during he crossing to the island
