Brown-headed Cowbird
brown-headed cowbird

Males greenish black with brown head. Females grayish brown. Bills are black.

Borwn-heaaded Cowbirds breed throughout all of the United States, except Florida, and into Canada. They are increasing their range and are considered a pest in some areas as they compete with local bird populations.

Cowbirds are parasitic towards other birds. They do not raise their own young. They steal an egg from another bird's nest and replace it with one of their own. The young cowbird is larger than its step siblings and often forces them out of the nest whilst its step parents continue to feed it.
