| The Cardinal is the State Bird of: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia.
This beautiful singer likes the interior of the forest, as well as the neighbourhood of cities.
Males are deep red with a black area around the eye and a red crest. Females are duller brown but still have the same shape and crest. All sexes have a reddish conical bill.
