NM Rosyfinch Researcher killed in car crash

Ryan Beaulieu, a regular contributor to Surfbirds, was killed in a car crash near Roswell, NM when the car that he and Raymond VanBuskirk were driving in, swerved to avoid a deer. Raymond (who's condition is unknown) is in hospital. Ryan was an enthusiastic teen birder and helped to put the Sandia Crest, NM Rosyfinches on the ornithological map. Both Ryan and Raymond pioneered the Rosyfinch banding and research program. The birding world wishes to extend its sympathy to Ryan's family.

A Web page on the Sandia Crest NM Rosy Finch site has been dedicated to the memory of Ryan Beaulieu:

--Nancy Cox of Rio Grande Bird Research, Inc., who with her husband Steve supervised the rosy-finch banding operaton at Sandia Crest, said that upon hearing the news of Ryan's death, the banders at Rio Grande Nature Center in Albuquerque "kissed the birds they banded today, because that is what Ryan always did as he released them."--

I babysat for Ryan when he was little. His mom is a good friend of my mom's and always has been. I can't even express the sorrow feel for his family. He will be deeply missed. God please watch over him and his family. I'm so sorry for your loss!
